SPKS and BPDP Boost Smallholder Palm Oil Downstreaming in Sekadau

2026-04-23

Quoting official statement, on Monday, April 20, 2026, Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS) and Badan Pengelola Dana Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit (BPDP) are pushing capacity building for farmers and cooperatives.

During a workshop held on April 16, 2026, more than 100 participants—including farmers, cooperatives, local government, and SMEs—explored opportunities for developing value-added palm-based products.

Sekadau Regent Aron stated that downstreaming is key to increasing farmers’ income.

“If farmers can process palm oil into derivative products, the economic value will increase significantly,” he said.

SPKS Chairman Bernadus Mohtar emphasized that cooperatives can become economic hubs, not only for selling harvests but also for processing products.

Meanwhile, SPKS General Chairman Sabarudin noted that around 100 derivative palm products can be developed, ranging from cooking oil to handicrafts.

The initiative is expected to create new rural economic opportunities and improve smallholder welfare sustainably.
