Strengthening Palm Oil Legal Framework Urgent, Bill Seen as Key Solution

2026-04-19

Quoted by from a presentation delivered on Wednesday (April 16, 2026), Ermanto Fahamsyah emphasized the need for integrated legal governance during the Andalas Forum VI.

He noted that despite numerous regulations, implementation challenges persist due to lack of coordination and regulatory inconsistencies.

“Unsynchronized regulations create legal uncertainty and hinder palm oil industry management from upstream to downstream,” he said.

Ermanto highlighted the need for a comprehensive Palm Oil Bill (RUU Perkelapasawitan) that integrates philosophical, juridical, and sociological aspects.

He added that Indonesia lacks a unified legal umbrella for its palm oil sector, despite its strategic economic contribution.

As a solution, he proposed establishing a centralized institution, such as the Indonesian Palm Oil Management Agency (BPPI), to harmonize policies and improve competitiveness.
